Are You A Good Person?

1. Have you ever lied?

2. Have you ever stolen anything?

3. Have you ever committed adultery? Jesus said, “everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart (Matt 5:28 NASB).” This applies to women lusting for men too.

The Bible says, “all [are] under sin; as it is written, "THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE; THERE IS NONE WHO UNDERSTANDS, THERE IS NONE WHO SEEKS FOR GOD; ALL HAVE TURNED ASIDE, TOGETHER THEY HAVE BECOME USELESS; THERE IS NONE WHO DOES GOOD, THERE IS NOT EVEN ONE." (Rom 3:9-12 NASB)…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Rom 3:23 NASB).” God is all good, holy, just and righteous. Jesus said, “No one is good except God alone (Mar 10:17-18 NASB).”

If God were to judge you by His 10 commandments, His standard, would you be guilty or innocent? We have only looked at 3 of them. The book of James says, “For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all (Jam 2:10 NASB).” God says that no one is without excuse (Rom 1:18-20)

The final destiny of those who have habitually sinned and have not accepted God’s offer of forgiveness through Jesus is judgment—eternal separation from God (Rev 20:11-15; 21:8). So, if you were to die today, would God let you into His heaven based on His requirements for admission?

But, there is good news. Jesus paid our fine so that we could escape eternal punishment and separation from God. "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life (Joh 3:16 NASB).” Jesus was the ultimate perfect sacrifice that appeased or satisfied God’s wrath on sin. He alone became our substitute, bearing our sins so that we could have peace with God (Rom 5:8; Joh 14:6).

When a person recognizes that they are a sinner who deserves Hell, repents of their sins, turning from them and puts their faith/ trust on what Jesus did for them on the cross, God will declare that person justified or righteous, meaning that person is now in a right relationship with God, God looks at that person just as if they never sinned. The Bible tells us that, “that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; (Rom 10:9 NASB).” So, where do you want to spend eternity—in heaven or hell?
